Individual Differences in Deer

Published by zztalon at 7:42 pm under Mammals Edit This

As the same deer keep popping up over and over on my camera, I’m starting to notice particular individuals. It’s made a little harder as most of the pictures are infrared. It makes me want to spray paint names on both sides of the deer for easier identification.

Perhaps if I feed them something radioactive. . . .  or maybe if I leave out jerk chicken or beef patties they will leave some sort of heat signature. . . . I’m sure once the antlers start coming out it will be a little easier.  (I’m not sure how deer reproduce being that every one I seem to catch on film is male.)

Any way here are two of the players I’ve named. I can always tell these two apart, but some individuals in between these extremes show up and make it a little harder.

Clark Kent - mild mannered graceful-looking deer

I’m not sure if these differences are due to age, genetics, or both, it’ll be interesting to see some antlers. . . .
